Introduction: Best places to travel in Fatehpur Sikri

Fatehpur Sikri is a municipal board in Agra district. Fatehpur Sikri city was established by the Mughal emperor Akbar in 1571. This city remained the capital of the Mughal Empire for about 14 years. It is said that due to lack of water, Akbar established his capital in Agra Fort. Fatehpur Sikri is about 37 kilometers away from Agra. Fatehpur Sikri is the best example of Mughal architecture.

It is said about the mosque of Fatehpur Sikri that this mosque is a copy of the mosque of Mecca. The entrance gate of this mosque is Buland Darwaza whose height is about 54 meters. This palace was built in 1573. To the north of the mosque is the shrine of Sheikh Salim Chisti. Those women who do not have children come to this Dargah to pray.

Buland Darwaza

Many buildings built by Akbar are still present in Fatehpur Sikri. One of those buildings is Buland Darwaza, which is the tallest building in Fatehpur Sikri. Its height is 280 feet. After about 52 stairs the viewer reaches inside it. This gate was built by Akbar as a memorial to his conquest of Gujarat. The old doors of Buland Darwaza are still intact. It is through this door that one enters the Dargah of Sheikh Salim Chisti.

On the left side of this door is the Jama Masjid and in front is the Dargah of Sheikh Salim Chisti. Women who do not have children come to this Dargah to pray. The graves of his relatives are also present near this mausoleum. There is a marble pond in the shade of trees near the mosque and the Dargah. There is a special type of stone at a place in the mosque which when tapped makes the sound of a drum. This is one of the best place to travel in Fatehpur Sikri

Panch Mahal

Panch Mahal was built by the Mughal emperor Akbar. There are a total of 176 pillars in this building. This is a four storey building. The puzzle floor rests on 84 pillars, the second floor rests on 56 pillars, the third floor rests on 20 pillars, the fourth floor rests on 12 pillars and above the fourth floor there is a dome which rests on four pillars. 

There are flower shapes on this dome. Looking at Panch Mahal, it seems that it has been constructed inspired by Buddhist temples. This building used to be a place of pleasure for royal women and queens. There was a net around it which acted as a curtain for these royal women. Royal women used to come to this building to enjoy the breeze. This building is very beautiful to look at. People come from all over the country and abroad to see its beauty.

Jodha Bai Palace

Jodha Bai Palace also known as Jodha Bai Mahal. Jodha Bai Mahal is situated in Fatehpur Sikri. This palace was built by Akbar in 1569. This palace was built by Akbar for his favorite queen ‘Rani Jodha Bai’ who belonged to a Rajput family. A Hindu temple and Tulsi monastery are also built in this palace and the figure of Shri Krishna is also made on the walls of this palace, which shows that a Hindu queen lived in this palace.

Jama Masjid

Jama Masjid of Fatehpur Sikri was built by Akbar in the 16th century. It has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. This mosque is one of the main tourist places of Agra. Thousands of travelers keep coming here to see this mosque. This mosque is very beautiful to look at.
